My life was completely changed at 8 years old when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
Diabetes is stressful. When I was in high school, I found community and stress relief in group exercise classes. This ignited my passion for fitness. In college, I branched out and started trying new types of workouts- running, yoga, indoor cycling classes, and- my favorite- weight lifting!
The problem was, I felt like I was chasing my blood sugars. I didn't want to feel like a stranger in my own body, and I didn't want diabetes to hold me back from reaching my fitness and health goals. I wanted to understand how the foods I ate and the workouts I performed affected my blood sugars. I wanted to be the one in the driver's seat of my diabetes management.
After going to school to study the biochemistry of nutrition, exercise physiology, and medicine, I worked in endocrinology for 2 years as a Physician Assistant, helping diabetics with their medical management. In 2021, I decided to shift my path to online diabetes health coaching so that I could empower other diabetics to take control of their condition the way I learned to take control of mine- through education, community, and self-reflection.
